February 2025 Milk Quality Results

Here at Meadowvale Farmstead & Creamery, we're over the moon to share the latest milk quality test results from Udder Health Systems, and the news is nothing short of udder-ly fantastic!

The Highlights:

• Bacterial Count: Our Standard Plate Count (SPC) is so low, the lab couldn't even count it, giving us the best possible score of <2500! According to the Raw Milk Institute, anything below 5000 cfu/ml is considered safe for raw milk, and we're proudly at less than half that benchmark. This is a testament to our unwavering commitment to top-notch dairy hygiene!
• Coliform Levels: With a Total Coliform count under 15, our milk is incredibly pure and safe. These results are so low that even the lab struggled to count them. It's all due to our strict hygiene standards that prevent environmental contamination.
• Somatic Cell Count (SCC): This isn't just a number; it's a health check for our cows. SCC measures udder inflammation, and the Raw Milk Institute suggests keeping it below 200,000 for individual cows and 400,000 for bulk tank milk. Our cows scored an impressive 60,000! This stellar result signifies our herd is in exceptional health, with minimal inflammation and no signs of mastitis or other subclinical issues.

Ongoing Improvements:We're never complacent at Meadowvale. Our latest tests indicated that our cows might be getting a bit more protein than necessary, so we're making some dietary adjustments. By optimizing Milk Urea Nitrogen levels, we're working towards even better efficiency and sustainability. This tweak won't compromise milk quality; it simply means we can use slightly less protein while ensuring our cows get all the energy and nutrients they need from our premium non-GMO organic hay.
